My children enjoy spending time coloring! How about yours? We have decided to put together another set of coloring pages for you and they are free to download. This time we have winter coloring pages for your kids. Perfect for those gloomy winter days when kids are stuck inside!
Before moving on with what we included in winter coloring pages pack, we should talk some more about why is coloring important stage in child’s development.
Why is coloring good for your child?
There are many benefits of coloring pages for young children such as toddlers and preschoolers. Here are just few of the ones that come to mind:
- Coloring is good for fine motor skill development – From learning how to grasp and use coloring pencils to constricting movement inside the lines. Don’t worry if your child can’t color inside the lines at the beginning. They will get better with practice.
- Coloring for color recognition – Children often associate certain colors with certain objects (for example: sun = yellow). Coloring will help them use learned colors to color objects but also teach them about new items and mixing colors.
- Coloring improves patience, focus and concentration – If you ever colored any coloring page, you know how much focus it takes. The more detailed the image, the more focus it takes. For this reason, it is good to start with single object images, like our winter coloring pages, because young kids easily lose focus. As they grow older, you can add more and more detailed coloring pages.
- Coloring is fun and helps with boredom – Also to add, coloring is something child can do on their own without adults getting involved.
What is included?
We added 10 coloring pages with winter theme:
- boy in winter clothes
- little bird with a scarf
- penguin
- snowman
- fireplace
- winter hat
- a pair of winter gloves
- a scarf
- little bear
- ice scates
Since little kids (toddlers and preschoolers) get easily overwhelmed when coloring pages are too complex, these winter coloring pages with a single object will be perfect for them.
USE OUR FREE WINTER COLORING PAGES MULTIPLE TIMES!
If you switch from crayons to watercolors or from pens to poster paint, you can make use of the same coloring pages multiple times.
Here are few ideas how to make coloring pages more interesting:
- ask a child to invert colors – for example, make upside down rainbow
- use an art tool they never used before (like chalk markers or watercolor brush pens)
- ask them to color with their fingers (use washable finger paint or washable stamp pads)
We recommend these supplies:
- chalk markers (find here: United States | Canada | United Kingdom)
- watercolor brush pens (find here: United States | Canada | United Kingdom)
- washable finger paint (find here: United States | Canada | United Kingdom)

EXTEND THE PLAY WITH THE BOOK ABOUT WINTER
A twist on a favorite nursery rhyme Itsy Bitsy Spider! Sing along as you read and make it a fun experience for toddlers. Little ones will love this fresh winter spin on a classic nursery rhyme, as one little snowman sleds through a winter wonderland. Find the book here: United States | Canada | United Kingdom
Toddlers love to hear stories about animals and especially, they find baby animals interesting and adorable. Well, we adults are the same! Babies in the snow is a lovely book introducing arctic animals including polar bears, whales, caribou, walruses, seals, and more. It is a nice little lift-a-flap book with super cute animals and easy for them to interact while you read aloud to them. Find the book here: United States | Canada | United Kingdom
WHAT ELSE CAN A CHILD DO IN WINTER?
Here are few suggestions for your toddlers and preschoolers:
- bring snow indoors and have fun painting snow
- make a torn paper snowflake (great for fine motor skills!)
- enjoy winter themed sensory bin when it’s too cold to go outside!
