If you have a little girl in your house like it is in my case, good chances are that you spend a lot of time dancing! Which is not at all bad – dancing helps develop gross motor skills and entertains our kids!
On this page, I will share a tutorial for creating ballet tutu from repurposed plastic grocery bags. There are several great things about making this tutu: you will make something that will entertain your kids without any money spent, you’ll reuse some of the plastic bags you gathered over time, and most importantly – your girl will love dancing wearing this tutu!
Supplies needed to make a plastic bags tutu
Supplies needed to make this tutu are very basic:
– app. 15 – 20 plastic bags (depends do you have bigger or smaller bags, start with small amount of plastic bags, you can always add more)
– scissors
– piece of ribbon long enough to be tied around child’s waist
You can use all white bags or in plastic bags in different colors, depending on you child’s taste.
steps to put together a little plastic bag ballet tutu
#1 – Put bag flat on the table, to look like when it was purchased.
#2 – Fold the bag in half like shown on the picture and cut the bottom.
#3 – Cut through the middle of the bag, part with handles should remain.
#4 – Place shorter piece from the middle on the side, we’ll use it later.
#5 – Spread the part with the handles and cut through middle like on the picture. Now you have a long strip.
#6 – Attach the strip to the ribbon (tie a knot).
#7 – Repeat steps 1 – 6 until all the strips are attached.
#8 – For the end, use up those strips from the middle part of the bag (from the step 5) and attach them to the ribbon as well. Put them in between long strips. Cut the extras.
For the last step, tie the tutu around your child’s waist and shorten as needed and desired.
OFF TO DANCE!

Plastic bags and small children. Are you nuts???? Toddlers trained to think plastic bags can be clothes???? What are your plans for the day they decide they can be hats and face masks? This is putting recycling above safety.

Plastic bags are no more safety hazard than anything else inside anyone’s house. It’s up to parents to look after their kids. And I do. Don’t you?
