Kids, especially 1-year-olds, typically enjoy the opportunity to get messy. Arts and crafts for little ones don’t have to be messy, though. There is no limit to the age when kids can start creating with paint, crayons, and other art supplies. Arts and crafts for kids develop the imagination, fine motor skills, and even boost your child’s self-esteem. These are our favorite art & craft supplies for 1-year-olds.
1. My First Crayola: Fingerpaint Kit
Finger paints, in my opinion, are essential for a one-year old’s art & crafts box. Some one-year-old children may not have the capabilities of holding a paint brush or would much rather use their fingers and hands. Finger paint is also multi-dimensional, adding in the sensory aspect to the activity as well.
2. My First Crayola: Palm-Grip Crayons
For super little hands who want to color and also may have a hard time holding a traditional skinny crayon, these crayon eggs are made specifically for little hands. They are easy to hold which makes creating art even easier for them.
3. My First Crayola: Double Doodle
One year old kids may love to create art and crafts, but they also tend to make messes! If you are looking for a mess-free art activity for your little one, this Double Doodle might be the right tool. Kids can draw on it and it will wipe away. So there isn’t a huge mess!
4. AquaDoodle Travel Water Mat
Another option for a mess-free art is to get your toddler an AquaDoodle travel water mat. My daughter loved hers and we always carry it when we take car trips or need to spend some time waiting in doctor’s office. Comes with refillable water pen.
5. Crayola Art Smock
If painting is what your activity choice is, this child size smock may be the answer to keeping their clothes cleaner. The colors and design are also fun, my daughter would say she’s a professional artist with this smock!
These washable large ink pads are super fun with their vibrant colors! Comes in set with 8 different colors, easy to wash off and perfect for little hands to make huge art! We have ours for years now, only thing we need to do is add a bit of water when ink pad begins to dry up.
7. Snailrun Magnetic Doodle Board
Snailrun Magnetic Doodle Board can be used as a little drawing table when your toddlers is sitting or, they can use a handle to carry it around where ever they go. It’s another option for a mess-free art and perfect as a quiet time independent activity.
8. Alex Jr: Tots Sticker Pictures
This fun tot sticker set is perfect for getting the creative, imagination juices flowing. Each set comes with pictures and stickers. Children can put the stickers where they would like. For a one year old, this is also a fabulous fine motor activity!
9. No Spill Paint Cups
Must have! Brightly color coordinated colored lids on no-spill paint cups allow you to easily identify the color of the paint inside. Great art supply to have at every home or classroom – prevents spills and keeps paint fresh until next paint session!
10. Finger-Paint Paper Pad
Never enough paper for little artists! We love using larger size papers for our children’s art – they get freedom to express anything they feel! The paint doesn’t soak through the paper and rip because the paper has a nice thickness to it.
Your child might only be one but that does not exclude him or her from doing arts and crafts. Do you have a favorite art or craft project that you and your one year old like to do together?
