Promoting fine motor skills for our 4 year old boys and girls is important to build independence and help our little ones grow.
Fine motor skills are used for using our hands and fingers to manipulate the world around us. They are a foundation for many other skills to develop on top of. Things like hand-eye coordination stem from fine motor skills.
Here are our recommendations for the top 10 toys that promote fine motor skills for 4 year olds.
#1 – Jumbo Stringing Beads
The different shapes and colors included with the jumbo stringing beads keep anyone entertained. Any combination that can be imagined can be created. Will your kids make a colorful snake, a bracelet? My girls each worked on their fine motor skills and made their own necklaces with the beads!
#2 – Jumbo Nuts and Bolts
This 12 piece nuts and bolts set lets your little ones learn to use their hands and fingers by allowing them to screw and unscrew the bolts. Not only are they awesome for fine motor skills but they can help memory, concentration and more!
#3 – Fine Motor Tool Set
Help strengthen hands and fingers in preparation for when your kiddo starts to write on their own. The fine motor tool set can be used for just about everything. Like picking up bugs or just playing with other toys. We used this set for activities like ice cream fine motor play, galaxy sensory bin and apple scented sensory bin.
#4 – Button Art
Button Art can be so much fun. With 46 buttons and 10 different pages, this set will keep your kids busy for awhile. My girls like giving the frog silly colors, anything but green for the frog!
#5 – Brain Flakes Snowflake
Brain flakes are seriously cool! For your boy or girl, no matter their gender – they will LOVE building anything they want with the snowflakes. We made a tree sort of like the one pictured above. My girls latest building was a princess castle and it was actually really well done!
#6 – Grasp and Match
The grasp and match set is phenomenal for fine motor skills AND hand-eye coordination. Challenge your kiddo to use both hands trying to get the clothes pin onto the rings.
#7 – Perler Beads
There’s been a variation of toys of this nature in the past few generations of kids. Perler beads are small beads that can be arranged using any of the provided templates or freehand. They are then melted together (with parents’ help of course!) to create long lasting designs that can be used for keychains or wall decorations! My girls love making cute little flowers and putting them all over their room!
#8 – Pattern Blocks
Pattern blocks are so much fun! With five different boards including animals and fun geometric designs, your kiddo can use the 120 shapes to make fun colorful designs.
#9 – Pipe and Joint Construction
With 30 pieces in the pipe and joint construction set the sky is the limit for what can be built! A car or a bike for actions figures? You name it, and your kid can probably build it with this set!
