Nursery rhyme The Wheels on The Bus is one of my daughter’s favorite rhymes. She sings it all the time and even makes up her own rhymes to that melody! I’ll share some of the resources and ideas for learning activities which can help toddler’s emotional and physical development and all of them are connected to this fun nursery rhyme.
There are many nursery rhymes available, online, on CDs, DVDs and books. Common to the most of the nursery rhymes: babies, toddlers, preschoolers and children of an older age LOVE THEM!

How We Play on Wheels on the Bus Nursery Rhyme?
So far we have sang along and danced on the Wheels on the Bus. We have imitated movements that are mentioned in the song.
Wheels on the Bus Activity Flash Cards
I have created some flash card so we mix them up and drew them out and play what card shows. You can also ask a child to put them in a sequence as they sing the rhymes.
Wheels on the Bus Shape Matching Activity
Next, we have worked on shape matching activity. After you print our printable (link on the bottom of the page), you will get on one piece of paper an image of a bus. On second paper you will print out a set of matching shapes. They need to be cut out. To play, child needs to place shapes on the right spots on the bus.
As they match shapes to the ones on the bus image, you can ask them to name each of the shape. We have laminated our sheets and shape cut-outs to be able to preserve them and use them multiple times. But you can simply print them out as you need them.
Wheels on the Bus Size Sequencing Activity
The third activity we played is connected to math, once again. In printable (on the bottom of the page), there are 5 busses in different sizes. When you print out a sheet, you need to cut each bus. Child’s task is to set on the table busses from the smallest to the largest. Or you can switch and ask them to set them from the largest to the smallest.
There are so many things to do with this song!
Well, since we have listened to this song for over 100 times in last 2 days, somehow I think we’ll have more than enough time to do all of these things on the list!
Wheels on the Bus Sound Book
You can pick the Wheels on the Bus sound book for your singing toddler!
It is a fun interactive book designed to encourage children to play, sing, and dance while being exposed to repetition, movement, and learning new words through fun verses from The Wheels on the Bus. This Sound Book comes with six favorite verses from the Wheels on the Bus Song: The Wheels, The Driver, The Wipers, The Horn, The Door, and The Baby featuring eye-catching Montessori-inspired illustrations on each page.
